SCALING THE WCA REFERENCE SYSTEM FOR 2-DIMENSIONAL LENNARD-JONES FLUIDS

Bishop has obtained molecular dynamics results of the equation of state for two-dimensional fluids using the reference system of the Weeks-Chandler-Andersen theory. Then he has shown that the scaling procedure from this reference system to a hard-disk one is an excellent approximation in the fluid region. Nevertheless, he has not considered the possible temperature dependence of this procedure. In this paper we test the same scaling procedure again, now on a wide range of temperatures and densities, including those of interest in the study of the adsorption of fluids on solids. Our molecular dynamics results are compared with those of a hard-disk system, obtained with five different analytical equations and using different hard-disk diameters, both proposed in the literature. We find that Bishop's conclusion is valid at all temperatures.
