NONLINEAR PERTURBATIONS OF EINSTEIN-YANG-MILLS SOLITONS AND NON-ABELIAN BLACK-HOLES

The evolution of nonlinear perturbations of the regular Bartnik-McKinnon solution of the SU(2) Einstein-Yang-Mills equations is studied numerically. Depending on the initial perturbation, we find a collapse to a Schwarzschild black hole or an explosion of the gauge boson "mini star". This confirms our expectations from a previous linear stability analysis and provides also numerical evidence for the instability of the new "colored" black hole solutions.
