THE EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE AND OLEATE ADSORPTION ON THE GROWTH OF MAGHEMITE PARTICLES

摘要
This study has shown that the concentration of surfactant controls the growth of ultrafine particles of maghemite when heated in alkali solution. This growth was monitored by measurement of initial susceptibility, by TEM and by X-ray diffraction. Increase in surfactant adsorption, monitored by gravimetric analysis, improves the stability of colloidal suspensions of such particles in strong magnetic field gradients.
