A survey is given concerning studies of the thermal decomposition of salicylic acid and its alkaline, alkaline earth and other metal salts. The application of thermal analysis to the detection and quantitative determination of salicylic acid and its salts is discussed. Studies on the elucidation of the mechanism of commercial-scale manufacture of salicylic acid, by using thermal methods of analysis, have been reported. © 1979.
