FAILURE ANALYSIS IN THE PRESENCE OF DUCTILE CRACK GROWTH

摘要
A procedure is developed whereby slow crack growth can be analysed using the failure assessment diagram of Harrison, Loosemore and Milne. Two parameters are required: J(Δa), which is the J required to extend the crack, and the resultant change in the plastic limit load. It is then possible to calculate the load required to extend the crack a given amount, or the maximum load any structure can withstand, and the crack extension which results from the load application. Data from a variety of sources are used which justify the technique for a number of steels and for simple test geometries. © 1979.
