摘要
The discharge patterns of the retinal ganglion cells in goldfish reflect strongly nonlinear processes. By use of sine wave modulated light stimuli a distinction between linear and nonlinear signal processing could be made. Application of the linearising properties of auxiliary signals added to the sinusoidal stimulus, resulted in the determination of a functional sequence of the events in the retina and also of the characteristics of some of these processes. The following sequence of processes was found to describe sufficiently the discharge patterns of the phasic ganglion cell responses to small signal stimulation: (a) high frequency attenuation, (b) différentiation, (c) rectification and saturation and (d) additional high frequency attenuation. © 1969.
