X- and gamma-ray radiation detectors were fabricated from polycrystalline, chlorine-compensated cadmium telluride (CdTe) having a resistivity of >108 Ω cm. These detectors were operated in a photovoltaic in a mode (zero bia) while dc coupled to a sysmetrical differenial current amplifier to serve as a prototypic dosimeter. The sensitivity of the system to 60 keV gamma radiation was 0.1 mR/h and was noise limited. The drift of the electrical zero was negligible from 0 to 50°C; the radiation sensitivity <0.25%/°C over the same temperature range. No detector polarization was observed. © 1978.
