Schostack, K.J. and Malinowski, E.R., 1990. Theory of evolutionary factory analysis for resolution of ternary mixtures. Chemometrics and Intelligent Laboratory Systems, 8: 121-141. A self-modeling procedure for the resolution of ternary mixtures is developed from explicit theoretical principles. The algorithm, called the SEPARATOR, takes advantage of mathematical simplifications provided by the sequential appearance and disappearance of individual species in evolutionary processes. The method is applied to simulated and experimental equilibrium systems yielding upper and lower boundaries to the pure component spectra and concentration profiles. © 1990.
