摘要
X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy has been employed to estimate the iso-electric point (IEPS) of inorganic surfaces of importance in adhesion. The method makes use of cation and anion exchange in a series of aqueous solutions covering a range of pH values. From a knowledge of the solution equilibria involved it is possible to estimate the IEPS. This method has the particular advantage that it is applicable to planar surfaces, and, of particular importance in adhesion studies, to terminal oxide layers on metals that contain concentration gradients such as those that have been treated with a conversion coating.
