NEW HALDANE GAP SYSTEM CONFIRMED FROM HIGH-FIELD MAGNETIZATION

摘要
High-field magnetization measurements are performed on powder samples of the quasi - one - dimensional S = 1 antiferromagnets, NiC2O42L (L=2-methylimidazole and 1, 2-dimethylimidazole) up to 36 Tesla at 1.7 K and 4.2 K. The observed magnetizations are very small below the definite critical field Hc near 13 Tesla and they increase abruptly above Hc, indicating a clear evidence for the existence of the non-magnetic ground state and magnetic excited state. The results are discussed in terms of the predicted Haldane gap for the one-dimensional antiferromagnet with integer spin. The compounds investigated are newly found to be the promising candidates for the Haldane gap system. © 1990.
