2JPCH values for 78 acyclic organophosphorus compounds are tabulated, and the effect of substitution at carbon and phosphorus on the magnitude of the coupling constant is discussed. Though relatively constant for some groupings the observed splitting varies widely (0-22 Hz) and unpredictably in other cases. No simple theory adequately accounts for these variations. © 1968 CSIRO.
