DETERMINATION OF NUCLEON-NUCLEON POTENTIALS FROM SCATTERING DATA USING MARCHENKO THEORY

Nucleon-nucleon potentials have been calculated from scattering phase shifts using the solution of the inverse problem of scattering theory due to Marchenko. This method works without special model assumptions or any given analytic expression of the potential. Furthermore, it is possible to reproduce the data completely. Only T = 1 uncoupled states are considered in this paper. It is found that the potentials should be expressed in the classical form of Wigner without a quadratic LS-term, the L = 0 states being treated entirely phenomenologically by a separate potential. At distances r < 6 fm the deviation from the pure Coulomb force due to one-pion exchange becomes significant and for r < 3 fm strong deviations from one-pion exchange are found. More detailed information about NN interactions may be obtainsd when the coupled states are treated as well. © 1969.
