PSYCHOLOGICAL DIFFERENTIATION AND STRONG VOCATIONAL INTEREST BLANK

Hypothesized that individuals' increasing psychological differentiation as conceived by Witkin, et al., would be related to the following SVIB occupational groups: positively with engineering and similar scales, and negatively with business detail and contact and with social service scales. 62 male undergraduates took the 1966 edition of the SVIB and were administered the Embedded Figures Test (EFT) and Sophistication of Body Concepts (SBC) measures of differentiation. Effects of verbal ability were held constant by partial correlations. Neither error nor time scores of the EFT was systematically related to SVIB scales. SBC exhibited significant correlations with some of the engineering and business scales as hypothesized, but the hypothesis for social service scales was clearly not supported.
