TEMPERATURE-DEPENDENCE OF ZINC UPTAKE IN FUCUS-VIRSOIDES (DON) J AG AND ENTEROMORPHA-PROLIFERA (O F MULL) J AG FROM THE ADRIATIC SEA

Zinc uptake in the eulittoral species Fucus virsoides (Don.) J. Ag. and Enteromorpha prolifera (O. F. Müll.) J, Ag. from the Adriatic Sea was studied under conditions of different external concentrations of zinc and various temperatures. Results indicate that the metal uptake is influenced by temperature and metal concentration in both species. The ability of metal uptake is higher in Fucus and particularily enhanced at 20°C, The relative uptake in relation to the initial concentration of zinc in the thallus was, on the other hand, higher in Enteromorpha. In this species the concentration factor proved to be higher than in Fucus at temperatures of 5°C and 10°C and at the lower external concentrations of zinc. © 1979, Walter de Gruyter.
