Chlorine evolution kinetics were studied on Pt, Ir, Rh, Pt-Ir, Ru, RuO2 + TiO2 on Ti, C (vitreous), and Fe3O4 from 5M NaCl solutions (pH ~ 3.5) at 95° C. From the Tafel slopes and stoichiometric numbers, the nature of the slow step during chlorine evolution on most of these surfaces appears to be one involving recombination or electrochemical desorption of adsorbed intermediate species, based on this preliminary study. © 1979, The Electrochemical Society, Inc.
