FUZZY CLASSIFICATION OF LOCATION OF DOUBLE-BONDS IN TETRADECENYL ACETATES BY ELECTRON-IMPACT MASS-SPECTROMETRY

Twelve isomers of chemically unmodified tetradecenyl acetate were analyzed by two kinds of quadrupole mass spectrometers and a single focusing magnetic one, both of which are coupled with a gas chromatograph, for the identification of the double bond position. The spectra from one of the quadrupole instruments were interpreted in terms of mass spectral patterns on a fuzzy classification in which the relative intensity ratios of five diagnostic pairs of the predominant ions were preferred in devising similarity indices. The method was tested with mass spectra from both a single focusing and another quadrupole instrument, and proved to provide all information necessary for identification of double bond position.
