RAMAN AND INFRARED-SPECTRA OF METAL-SALTS OF ALPHA,ALPHA-DICYANO-P-TOLUOYLCYANIDE - NONRESONANT RAMAN-SCATTERING IN TETRACYANO-P-QUINODIMETHANIDE

摘要
Polycrystalline samples of metal salts of alpha, alpha-dicyano-p-toluoylcyanide (DCTC-) have been prepared. The Raman spectra of NaDCTC, CuDCTC, and AgDCTC are reported, as are the IR spectra of CuDCTC and AgDCTC. Comparison of these Raman spectra with that reported for DCTC- in solution indicates that for bands between 700 and 1700 cm(-1) there is little change in peak position of the principle Raman bands with changes in ion environment. Raman spectra of films of copper tetracyano-p-quinodimethanide (CuTCNQ) are also reported and compared to that of CuDCTC. We find that bands sometimes assigned as non-totally symmetric modes of TCNQ(-) are due to the presence of DCTC- as an impurity.
