Raman studies of reorientation of carbon tetrachloride molecules in the liquid and plastic solid phases

摘要
The contours of the nu(2) and nu(4) bands of carbon tetrachloride have been studied over the temperature range 240-373 degrees K. Vibrational contributions to the spectral band shapes were estimated from the, width of the totally symmetric nu(1) band, and the presence of the different isotopic CCl4 molecules with different vibration frequencies was taken into account. Reorientational and angular momentum correlation times which characterize the rotational motions of the molecules in the liquid and plastic phases were obtained by comparing the corrected Fourier transforms of the nu(2) and nu(4) bands with the correlation functions given by the extended J-diffusion medel.
