A combination of total internal reflection fluorescence and fluorescence recovery after photobleaching was used to measure the adsorption of 7-chloro-4-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazole (NBD) labeled bovine serum albumin and NBD labeled lysozyme to plain quartz and alkylated quartz. A new method was developed to measure quantitatively the adsorbed amount of protein, using an intrinsic calibration. The results were confirmed by accompanying ellipsometry measurements. Equilibrium exchange kinetics of the adsorbed proteins between the surface and the bulk were measured as a function of temperature. © 1990.
