ELIMINATION OF SURFACTANTS IN WATER-TREATMENT BY ADSORPTION ONTO ACTIVATED CARBON

摘要
The adsorption characteristics of two solutes such as surfactants and phenols in micromolar range in water were determined in batch reactors, using powdered activated carbon as adsorbent. The adsorbates tested were: Sodium dodecylsulphate. benzyl dimethyl dodecyl ammonium bromide, phenyl dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide, the nonylphenoxyheptaethoxyl ethanol and 2‐naphol and their mixtures in different molar ratio. Predicted modela for the adsorption and the maximum adsorption capacity have been tested (Jain‐Snoeyink. Derylo‐Jaroniec, Dusart) and compared to experimental results: The interaction effects are discussed in terms of charge of electric ionic groups, steric hindrance and hydrophobic effects. © 1990 Publications Division Selper Ltd.
