Spinels of the series LizCu1-zMn2O4 were prepared in the compositional range 0 less-than-or-equal-to z less-than-or-equal-to 1. A transition from tetragonal distorted spinels (0 less-than-or-equal-to z less-than-or-equal-to 2/3) to cubic spinels (z less-than-or-equal-to 1) is observed. Investigation of the thermal stability shows that all the Cu-containing compounds undergo a decomposition reaction below 700-degrees-C. The electrical conductivity changes strongly with Li concentration from 7 x 10(-2) OMEGA-1 cm-1 for z = 0 to 2 x 10(-4) OMEGA-1 cm-1 for z = 1.
