A PDP-11 computer system, suitable for control of many types of wet chemical analysis, is applied to the automation of ion-selective electrodes. Direct measurements as well as standard addition methods can be used. The electrodes are calibrated automatically, the calibration being repeated until satisfactory results are obtained. Samples and standards are then analysed and the system is recalibrated if the results of a standard are not within preset limits. Up to 300 samples can be analysed in one run. The accuracy is typically better than 5%; 15-25 analyses per hour are possible in routine work. © 1979.
