The bicapped cluster [{Pt-4(mu-CO)(4)(PMe(2)Ph)(4)}{mu(3)-HgI}(2)] (1) was obtained by reacting the cluster compound [Pt-4(mu-CO)(5)(PMe(2)Ph)(4)] with one equivalent of [Hg2I2]. The IR and multinuclear NMR data as well as the X-ray crystal structure of the compound are reported. This compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/m with Z = 4, a = 10.086(2), b = 18.739(4), c = 24.764(5) Angstrom, and beta = 90.94(3)degrees. The structure was refined to R = 0.0787 for 3303 observed reflections (I greater than or equal to 3.0 sigma(I)).
