摘要
Large Marine Ecosystems are extensive aggregates of fish populations which are linked together in predator-prey relationships. These units represent regional living marine systems which respond to external stresses, such as overexploitation of commercially-valuable species (eg cod, haddock, flounder, environmental fluctuations as in the case of Peru's El Nino current, and large-scale pollution as has occurred in the Black and Baltic Seas. Efforts are gradually being made to initiate national and international management regimes for some of these ecosystems in the interests of conservation, and perhaps of eventual restoration of certain depleted stocks through adaptive management procedures.
