GLOSSARY OF SCOTTISH MINERAL SPECIES - AN UPDATE

A literature survey over the period January 1981 to December 1990 reveals that about 132 mineral species new to Scotland have been discovered. This is a 32% increase over the previous decade and results mainly from electron probe-microanalyses. Silicates, oxides, hydroxides, sulphides and sulphosalts form the bulk of the compilation. Highlights of the decade include the discovery of platinum group minerals in Shetland, work on manganese oxides and hydroxides and clay minerals, tellurium and selenium minerals and the discovery and description of five new mineral species.
