UV and IR spectroscopy and electron and X-ray diffraction were applied to the study of corrosion inhibition in the system ommet Fe/0.5 M H2SO4 + propargyl alcohol (PA) (1 × 10-4 M ≦ PA ≦ 2 × 10-2 M). The formation of the protective organic coating arises by chemical reaction involving, fundamentally, the transformation of the triple bond into a double one. Diffraction studies point to the oligomeric and stereoregular nature of the organic product formed. © 1990.
