A CYLINDRICAL DRIFT CHAMBER FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF HIGH CHARGED-PARTICLE MULTIPLICITIES IN HADRONIC EVENTS

摘要
The construction and operation of a 2 m long cylindrical drift chamber used as a high-multiplicity charged-particle detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider is presented. The chamber was constructed of low-mass carbon fibe-epoxy composite material and presents 0.014 interaction lengths of material to particles passing radially through it. A 24-layer "jet"-type drift cell was used which obtained a spatial resolution of 250 μm and a two-hit separation of 3 mm. The chamber reconstructed events containing more than 100 charged particles over approximately 3.4 units of pseudorapidity. © 1990.
