A number of models for the non-Debye dielectric response have been developed during the last few years. One such example reported by Kliem [J. Appl. Phys. 70, 1861 (1991)] from the work by Guo and Guo [J. Phys. C 16, 1955 (1983)] is not compatible with linear response theory, except under the condition of a step-function electric field; this has lead to a confusion of this model with those commensurate with linear response theory. The present communication resolves this ambiguity.
