EVAPORATION OF HIGH-VELOCITY PARTICLES IN FREE-MOLECULE FLOW

摘要
Effective heat-transfer coefficient lambda has been determined for microscopic iron particles traversing rarefied target gases at velocities between 25 and 40 km/sec; lambda is defined as ratio of incrs gas molecules; particles were completely vaporized in target gas and increase in internal energy was taken as total vaporization energy; total energy incident on particle surface from colliding gas molecules was determined experimentally.
