SOME EFFECTS OF SUBLETHAL HEAT ON SPORES OF NOSEMA APIS

摘要
Spores of Nosema apis, prepared from infected honey bees (Apis mellifera), released a number of compounds when heated in water above 45°C. Sorbitol and glucose were tentatively identified among the compounds released. Seven amino acids detectable on paper chromatograms appeared in the supernate. A number of other acids were found by automated column analysis of the acid-hydrolyzed extract. Materials were also released by ultrasonic treatment. Spores heated at 55°C for 10 min remained infective for test honey bees. None of the above treatments caused eversion of the polar filament or loss of refractility of the spore. © 1969.
