Diethyl, di-n-octyl, and dicyclohexyltin picolinates have been synthesized for the first time. The vibrational spectra of these and related diorganotin oxides and picolinates have been obtained and assignments made for most bands, with particular attention paid to the SnO, SnC and SnN regions. CC and CH signals dominate the oxide spectra, while the chelate bands prevail in the picolinate scans. Further, vibrational signals from the six-coordinate tin complexes attest to monomeric and bridging carboxyl groups, an indication of the solid-state oligomeric nature of the picolinates. These complexes, in solution, have also been subjected to UV and PMR analyses. © 1979.
