PHASE-LOCKED EPITAXY AND STRUCTURAL-ANALYSIS OF FE/AU(100) ARTIFICIAL SUPERLATTICES

By counting peaks of the reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) intensity oscillation, bcc-Fe/fcc-Au(100) superlattices were synthesized artificially. Using the Hendricks and Teller method, a statistical distribution of the superlattice periods is obtained from the X-ray diffraction pattern. A relation between fluctuations of superlattice periods, an interfacial alloying, and the irregular pattern of the RHEED intensity oscillations is discussed.
