TYPOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF MALE PREFERENCES FOR FEMALE BODY TYPES

A multivariate analysis of the preference ratings of 96 male undergraduates for 105 pairs of nude female silhouettes differing in breast size, buttocks size, and leg size, suggested that there are at least five distinct heterosexual somatic preference orientations. Although there was some evidence for “breast men” and “leg men,” the preferred figure types were generally configural in nature. In addition, meaningful constellations of personality characteristics were found to be related to the 6 preference orientations. These data provided only partial support for the widely-held belief in a tripart typology of male heterosexual somatic preference. © 1969, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. All rights reserved.
