QUANTUM SIZE EFFECTS IN THIN LEAD FILMS

摘要
The possibility of quantum size effects on different physical properties of Pb(111) slabs is investigated here numerically. On the basis of Hartree-Fock band structure calculations, oscillations are found for total energies, Fermi energies, electron distributions, and the electronic densities of states at the Fermi level. Our results support earlier model calculations and may be helpful for the interpretation of experimentally observed quantum size effects on the growth mechanism as well as on the electrical resistivity of ultrathin lead films.
