A UNIFIED DESCRIPTION OF NULL AND NONNULL SHEAR-FREE CONGRUENCES

摘要：

A simple tensor equation is given that is satisfied by null vectors if and only if they are proportional to shear-free geodesics. Non-null vectors satisfy this equation if and only if they can be normalized to shear-free unit vectors. Thus this equation unifies the treatment of the null and non-null cases. Conformal properties of the shear-free condition and this tensor equation are discussed.
