ORBITOGRAPHY - A REPORT ON 20 CONSECUTIVE CASES

A technique of positive contrast orbitography with 20% Renografin is described. A retrobulbar injection of 2.0 to 4.5 cc of 20% Renografin (1.5 cc Renografin 60%, 1.5 cc saline, and 1.5 cc Xylocaine 2%) is performed. Caldwell, Waters and lateral views are obtained at 0, 5, 10 and 15 minutes after injection. Space-occupying lesions of the orbit produce radiolucencies within the cone of contrast material or deformities of the contours of the cone. Twenty patients with clinical signs of space-occupying orbital lesions were examined and 11 tumors were accurately outlined. No complications could be attributed to orbitography. The technique is thought to be superior to that of negative contrast studies and angiography. © 1969.
