摘要
Describes a gamma ray Compton spectrometer which uses 198Au 3.7*1012 Bq (100 Ci) sources (Egamma=412 keV, T 12/=2.7 d), built for Compton scattering studies of heavy metals and their hydrides. By the use of relatively small amounts of tungsten alloy shielding it is possible to minimise the beam paths thus obtaining a gain in signal strength of more than one order of magnitude while simultaneously increasing the signal-to-noise ratio by almost two orders of magnitude, compared with the previous instrument.
