INVESTIGATIONS OF A DIOL-BASED SOL-GEL PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF LEAD TITANATE MATERIALS

Lead titanate sols were prepared by a sol-gel method from lead acetate trihydrate, Pb(OOCCH3)(2) . 3H(2)O, and titanium di-isopropoxide bis-acetylacetonate, Ti (OC3H7)(2)-(CH3COCHCOCH3)(2), in 1,3-propanediol, HO(CH2)(3)OH, as solvent. IR analysis and NMR spectroscopic techniques were used to study the reaction mechanisms and to identify possible polymer structures developed during synthesis of the solutions.
