Continuous parametric amplification of signals near 10.6 μ has been obtained. Amplification is caused by interaction with a strong pumping beam in sulfur hexafluoride gas, a saturable absorber. Nonlinear polarization of individual SF6 molecules is considered to be responsible. © 1969 The American Institute of Physics.
