The aim of an isoelastic prosthesis is its biomechanical incorporation due to the best possible imitation of its mechanical qualities of those of the bone. With reference to tissue compatibility and mechanical (isoelastic) reaction polyacetate resin stood the test for endoprosthesis of shoulder, finger and head of the femur. In a three-year test, positive results were achieved for the total prosthesis of the hip by the special technic of cementless fixing of polyethylene acetabula. The use of an isoelastic part of the femur for the total prosthesis is still being examined. © 1979 Springer-Verlag.
