INFRARED STUDY OF SURFACE PHONON MODES IN ZNO, CDS AND BEO SMALL CRYSTALS

摘要
Infrared transmission spectra of ZnO, CdS and BeO particles much smaller than the wavelength of incident light were measured over a wide range of dielectric constants of the surrounding medium, Features specific to the surface-mode absorption were found. Detailed analysis of observed peak frequencies and spectral shapes was made on the basis of the generalized theory of the average dielectric function. It is shown that the observed features of the spectra can be well explained by taking into account both the optical anisotropy and the actual shape of the particles. © 1979.
