X-RAY-INDUCED MUTATIONS IN POECILIID FISH LEBISTES RETICULATUS PETERS

摘要
(1) The genetic effects of X-irradiation in male and female germ cell stages of the poeciliid fish Lebistes reticulatus have been investigated. A hybrid and an inbred line were chosen as experimental material. (2) In both hybrid and inbred lines, litter size increased in the progeny of irradiated parents in the generations following irradiation. (3) The frequency of still births and post-natal mortality were reduced in all the post-irradiation generations of the inbred line and increased significantly in the F2 generation after spermatogonial irradiation with 1000 R in the hybrid line. (4) Sex-ratio was little affected. (5) The incidence of individuals with hereditary curvature of the vertebral column and of guppies with mutations of the basic pigmentation of the body was higher in the post-irradiation generations. (6) The mutation rate calculated from these findings lies below that of the house mouse. © 1969.
