J(C) CHARACTERISTICS OF BIPBSRCACUO SILVER CLAMPED THICK-FILM

Transport critical current densities J(c) have been measured as functions of temperature and magnetic field for textured Bi1.8Pb0.4Sr2Ca2Cu3Oy silver clamped thick films prepared by a physical deposition method. At 77 K, J(c) displays a very sensitive field dependence, with an order of magnitude decrease of J(c) from 0 to 1 T. Large J(c) anisotropy was observed for magnetic fields parallel and perpendicular to the film plane. As the temperature decreases, J(c) increases rapidly and the magnetic field dependence of J(c) is significantly weakened. A J(c) value larger than 10(4) A cm-2 at 52 K and 7 T was obtained, suggesting the possibility of application of Bi-based material using a coolant such as liquid nitrogen.
