摘要
Independent of the chain length are the optical and redox chemical properties of the oligomers 1, because the formally continuous pi conjugation in them is interrupted by the meta-phenylene units. This is valid for neutral as well as for ionic systems. The charge localization on a stilbene unit causes extremely long wavelength ''intervalence'' bands in the UV/VIS spectra of the radical ions of these compounds.
