PREPARATION OF HYDROPHILIC, SINGLE CRYSTALLINE SPECIMEN SUPPORTS OF GRAPHITE OXIDE

Holey collodion films with many holes side-by-side were prepared from a solution of collodion and the chaotropic salt calcium rhodanide in n-butanol. The size of the holes varied depending on the relative humidity of the air and on the mode of drying. The collodion films were reinforced by evaporation with carbon and the collodion removed with acetone. Thin single crystalline plates of graphitic oxide were then spread over the holes. Electron microdiffraction revealed a spot pattern indicating a hexagonal symmetry. The noise of the graphitic oxide foil corresponds to that of an aluminium oxide foil with about 20 thickness. © 1979 North-Holland Publishing Company.
