摘要
The irreversible expansion which occurs during graphitization of some carbons has been studied. This deformation was found to be characterized by increased microporosity created by the sudden formation and evolution of hydrogen sulfide gas. For a given sulfur concentration, the magnitude of the deformation was principally dependent upon the coke structure. Metallic impurities acted as inhibitors by reacting with the sulfur to form sulfides. In some cases, the subsequent decomposition of the inhibitor sulfides at higher temperatures resulted in a delayed deformation of the sample. © 1969.
