摘要：

Postmortem examination of the brain is essential for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. In the context of a study on the natural history of the condition, the authors describe their experience in obtaining consent for this procedure. Three‐quarters of relatives agreed to postmortem examination. This was the same whether they were asked before or at the time of death. The difficulties encountered in obtaining postmortems are discussed and practical suggestions made about the best way of acquiring relatives' full cooperation.
