BEAM DEFLECTION AND ULTRAFAST ANGULAR SCANNING BY A TIME-VARYING OPTICALLY INDUCED PRISM

摘要
By using dispersionless nonlinear refraction in CS2, a weak 0.53 mum beam is deflected by up to 3 mrad by an intense, copropagating, 1.06 mum pump beam with an asymmetric transverse intensity profile. With a 100 ps pump pulse, the inferred scan rate of the visible beam is almost-equal-to 10(8) rad/s, corresponding to almost-equal-to 10(11) defl. spots/s. Such ultrafast angular deflection may be applied to the generation of ultrashort optical pulses.
