摘要
The analogy between doubly curved shells and plates on elastic foundations is used to obtain a stiffness matrix for a shallow shell element having a rectangular plane projection. The Rayleigh-Ritz (finite element) method is then used to obtain solutions for 1. (i) a complete circular cantilevered cylinder loaded by a uniform radial load at the free end, and 2. (ii) a barrel vault hinged along the straight edges and supported by diaphragms at the circular ends when loaded by gravity load. Convergence to known results is obtained as the number of elements is increased. © 1969.
