ATTITUDE EVOKED ANTICIPATORY RESPONSES AND ATTRACTION

Predictions based on a reinforcement model of evaluative, responses were tested by exposing Ss to strangers’ attitude scales expressing varying proportions of attitudes which were similar to their own. Attraction toward the stranger, the anticipated positiveness of contact with the stranger, and estimated speed of success in solving a problem with the stranger as a partner were all significantly related to the proportion of similar attitudes expressed by the stranger.
